Acupuncture at the Natural Fitness & Therapy Centre

Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.

It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles of the body. This results in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It's likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture. A course of acupuncture usually creates longer lasting pain relief than when a single treatment is used.

Traditional acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy, or "life force", flows through the body in channels called meridians.

This life force is known as Qi (pronounced "chee").

Practitioners who adhere to traditional beliefs about acupuncture believe that when Qi doesn't flow freely through the body, this can cause illness. They also believe acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi, and so restore health.

Here at the Natural Fitness & Therapy Centre in Eastbourne, our Acupuncture therapists use sterilised disposable needles which are inserted into the body’s surface at strategic points. This treatment is used effectively and variedly to ease pain, relieve stress, increase circulation, boost the immune system and reduce the body’s susceptibility to illness.

Our Doctor of Chinese Medicine can treat a wide range of health conditions triggered by imbalances in both our physical and emotional states.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has existed for over 5000 years and is a comprehensive medical system with its own principles, diagnostic methods and therapies emphasising an holistic, natural approach and holding as its central belief that health in all parts of the body is due to the relative balance of Yin and Yang. TCM is based on two components: Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture.
